COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is an in-depth study of the effective techniques for troubleshooting CAT electronic engine controls with an emphasis on “hands-on” troubleshooting and repair. The majority of the class will consist of hands-on lab procedures utilizing live engines and/or trucks. Engines covered will/or may include: 3176/3176B, C-10/C-12, 3406C/E, 3116 HEUI/3126 HEUI, ACERT and EPA 07.

PREREQUISITES

OHEE, EEC, and ACERT courses. Students must provide their own safety glasses, steel toed footwear, hard hats and fire retardant coveralls with reflective stripe.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion, the participant will be able to:

  • Explain in writing the engine diagnostic procedures as per the CAT manuals provided
  • Explain the procedures to establish and program customer specified parameters using CAT Electronic Technician
  • Demonstrate flash downloading of the ECM
  • Interpretation and diagnosis of datalogs
  • Save, upload and print copies of warranty downloads
  • Use of Service Information Systems
  • Completion of online Heavy- Duty Service Technician Certification modules
  • Completion of online EPA 07 assessment

Successful completion of a written or online examination with a passing grade of 80% for the EETS and 85% for the EPA 07 assessment is required.
